About us

The Tezpur District Mahila Samiti (TDMS) is the pioneering women's organisation of the north eastern region of India. Ever since its inception in 1921 and subsequent registration in 1928, TDMS has evolved into a position of deep understanding of issues related to women in the larger backdrop of the social, cultural and economic context of the area.

Mahatma Gandhi's visit to the town of Tezpur in 1921 was instrumental in giving this organisation its unique ideology of volunteerism and self reliance translating into the all round development of communities at the grassroots level.

Sustainable Resource Generation Activities (SRGA's)

These form the core activities of TDMS and are a source of sustenance not only for the beneficiaries covered  but also the organisation as a whole. SRGA's include the Training cum Production Centre & Rural Weaving Programme, Tailoring & Embroidery, Jute Diversified Products, Sipini Sangha, Annapurna Food Corner, Women's' Thrift Group, Legal Aid and Counselling Centre etc...
