MAHILA SANCHAY BHORALS (WOMEN'S THRIFT GROUPS)

The concept of thrift and credit and of creating a sustainable mode of economic independence was introduced to TDMS by Saakshi, a Delhi based organization when we were collaborating with them for legal education programs. The President seized this opportunity as the concept of saving was a primary concern of TDMS since its inception.

 

TDMS had been campaigning to popularize the National savings Scheme in rural and tea garden areas since the 1950’s.  Through this programme TDMS was able to build 77 women groups into independent credit societies. Women's participation in economic activity through MSB's has resulted in personal, family and community development. The use and management of money has given them a sense of self satisfaction thus boosting their confidence. Creation of productive assets wage looms, Cattle, poultry, Handloom, Piggery, dairy are an offshoot of economic enterprise after the formation of MSB.
