TDMS has been working
continuously since 1999 on the Reproductive and
Child Health Project
as
the Nodal Agency for the Voluntary Health
Association of Assam.
The
objectives of the project are:
-
To
make people aware of reproductive health
issues
-
To
generate awareness and adopt measures to safeguard
the health of new born babies
-
To
motivate people to adopt correct contraceptive
methods to limit population growth and accept
the small family concept.
-
To
spread gender rights awareness and to enhance
the quality of service of primary health
centres by raising the awareness of the public
on such issues.
In
order to achieve the above objectives field based
activities were undertaken and community health
workers were trained to supplement and strengthen
the health services available via the state
sector. Field surveys, resource group training, TBA training, camps to detect RTI and other
syndromes of reproductive health, special camps
for 'eligible couples', sex and HIV training for adolescent
groups, health awareness programmes, street plays
for gender sensitisation are the highlights of
this project.
