STRENGTHENING ACCESS TO REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND GENDER JUSTICE

The primary objective of the project, funded by the Ford Foundation, New Delhi, is to empower grassroots women around the issues of reproductive health and gender justice from a rights based perspective. Concurrently, the TDMS core team is seeking to upscale its own capacity in order to bring about meaningful and sustainable impact of its work.

The project works in three tiers, the first tier being the community, the second being the Government institutions service providers and the third being the general public and the district administration.

At the advocacy level the project targets the general public and the Administration to create awareness on gender and RH rights.

At the service providers levels, govt. service providers are engendered.

At the grassroots, communities are being empowered through organisation building,  awareness generation and development of community leaders.

At the community The project has developed a comprehensive database on the status of reproductive health status in the project area and identified the weaknesses. The project is currently in the process of gender sensitizing the service providers of the formal health network, which mostly consists of the government health network, and also building up a cadre of health workers and young women leaders at the grass root level. The advocacy components of the project include public awareness and advocacy on RH rights and violence against women strengthening networking with other women organizations in Assam and other states of the region. The major accomplishments of the project are:

TDMS has been able to install a rights based perspective in its work.

The legal aid cell has grown in activism and emerged as a platform of trust and support for women who are victims of various kinds of aggression.

The gender sensitisation workshops conducted by TDMS have been very successful in terms of the issues that they have brought to the fore and have helped the participants to take a new look at firmly established and unchallenged patriarchal values.

Emergence of community level leaders is also a noteworthy achievement of the project.

Our network has grown tremendously and this has helped to gain access to better training inputs and learning from others best practices.
