SUSTAINABLE RESOURCE GENERATION ACTIVITIES

 

Sustainable resource generating activities form the core activities of the Samiti. Most of the activities are carried out within the office complex of the Samiti in Tezpur.

 

The activities are designed in a manner to achieve the objectives of the Samiti while at the same time generate resources for the beneficiaries and the organisation as a whole.

 

The major activities are:

 

the Training cum Production Centre and Rural Weaving Programme, which was started in 1991. Initially the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi, Guwahati gave a grant to buy looms and the Small Industries Development Bank of India gave a building grant.

The Tailoring & Embroidery Unit is functioning since the fifties. It has been imparting training to women in tailoring and embroidery for several years now.

In order to make use of locally available raw materials, TDMS started the Jute Workshop with initial support from NJDP of Kolkata in 1990.

Sipini Sangha (Weavers' Cooperative) has been active since the fifties.

Annapurna, the food counter is new initiative of the Samiti aimed at generating additional income for housewives and other marginalised women.

Pioneering the microcredit movement in the District, TDMS has formed several thrift groups known as Mahila Sanchay Bhorals

The Legal Aid Cell was established in 1992 to provide free legal aid to victims of violence, abuse and exploitation.

The Shishu Bharati School was established in 1954, a time when there was no pre-school education available in Tezpur. 

TDMS has emerged as a Resource Centre on gender based activities for corporate, government and non profit sectors.
